When it comes to song writing, I'm a traditionalist; melody matters having a real chorus, and a genuine emotional arc that runs through the body of the tune. No matter what is topping the charts at any given time, people will always love a real song... the most jaded human beings can slip into a indescribable reverie without even knowing it when under the spell of a good tune. Not to get all Jungian on you, but I think there's something in the collective unconscious that responds to 32 bars of well balanced music.
